Working from a hand-picked pool of around one hundred of the best young freelancers sourced from London & the whole of Europe, The Lydian String comprises musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Ballet, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestras of the BBC, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields & the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
Beyond that, two significant factors set us apart from our competitors.
1. Bespoke Music
Unlike many of our competitors, we provide not just string quartets, but anything from a solo instrumentalist upwards and when you look at our library of repertoire, you will see that it dramatically widens the scope of what one might normally expect in this area of performance. The limit is your imagination.
2. Cancer Fundraising
All our work is underpinned by a significant & unique charitable ethos. The idea came about in 2001, following the cancer related deaths of five family members. Coming to terms with this brought about a desire to use the existing musical abilities of the group to help in the fight against an illness that crosses all boundaries of age, race & class. There can be very few people who have not been touched by cancer, at least indirectly. Our aim is to raise at least £10,000 each year for Macmillan Cancer Support in a permanent, contractual arrangement.
We give 66% of the profits from all CD’s sold (£3.50 including VAT per disc), 20% of money raised from the public donations at each live music performance & 5% of the fee for booked engagements to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Starting in 2001, we have raised in excess of £150,000 for various UK based cancer charities.
